In the cold, dark waters of the Sea of Japan, a U.S. sub falls victim to a surprise attack. Sailors are injured, lives are lost, and the ship is destroyed. Although nothing appeared on radar, Commander Frank Habley is certain he saw an enemy sub submerging just before the attack. Back at the base, the Navy brass determines it was a missile attack. When Habley insists it was as sub, they think he's crazy and relieve him of duty.
Needed for a top secret mission, they reinstate him. Once on board, he's determined to find the phantom. Using experimental equipment, a crew member reports strange movement underwater. Habley realizes it's a new secret weapon, a stealth sub. Knowing it will follow him to the fleet, he abandons the mission, disobeys orders and changes course, drawing the stealth sub into battle. But now, how will he destroy an enemy he can't even see?
